Hello. How are you?

I made a comic. It’s called “Starfields”, as you can probably guess from the cover above. It’s a short 27 page story that I’m very happy to say was recently awarded the Second prize in Kodansha’s Morning International Comic Competition. It’s actually the first comic I’ve ever made so I’m really pleased with it. It’s just been published online so please click on the links to read it in English or Japanese on the Morning International Comic Competition website.

That’s the name of my new animation, and here’s an image to give you an idea of how it’s looking. I’m really loving doing this at the moment, I haven’t been this excited about an animation in years. It’s a new and tricky way of working for me so I expect problems at some point, but all’s good so far.

I’ll be posting some photos and details about how I’m making it soon, maybe even a video…

I’m blogging again, who’d have thought it! You may not know to look but I haven’t quite given up on this blog yet, though the Archives sidebar serves as a constant embarrassing reminder on just how little I post. Anyway, I’ve started working on a new animation that I’m really excited about. These days computer technology seems to be used more and more in animation, and not being one to miss the boat I’ve started using a computer (of sorts) to animate myself, as you can see from the photos above.

Oh, and details on that character inside the telly to come soon…

Hello! I’m back. Did you miss me?

Well, it’s pretty clear I’m rubbish at blogging. I suppose it was to be expected really. I’m bad enough replying to texts and emails, as anyone who knows me will tell you, so the chances of me keeping this blog up to date were always pretty slim. But hey, let’s not worry about that now.

I’ve been pretty busy the last few months but as this site is only about my personal work I don’t have too much to report I’m afraid. I finally managed to finish my comic, it’s 26 pages long and I’m pretty happy with it. I’m not sure what’s gonna happen to it at the moment, maybe I’ll start posting bits of it here.

Also I’m currently exhibiting my four films at the Museum Of Small Things at Selfridges. I’m very pleased to be part of the show and had a great time last Sunday checking out the rest of the work. I met a few people who had some lovely things to say about my films too which was really nice.

I’ve updated all the films on the site using vimeo, as their player is obviously a lot better than the one I made. So now you can watch my animations in better quality.

As you may have noticed the regular updates about my current project haven’t exactly come flooding in. I’m really enjoying what I’m working on at the moment but I don’t want to post anything just yet. Updates to come soon though…honestly.

Yes, the familiar humming of my projector indicates I’ve started a new animation. As you’ve probably noticed I’m a bit rubbish at keeping this blog updated but I’m hoping to turn that around by posting regular updates on how the projects going. Hopefully.

Tear Drops Blossom will be screened before Alain Resnais’ 1959 film “Hiroshima Mon Amour” at the National Gallery on Saturday 7 March. You can book tickets here.

Well I’m pretty happy with the story, and I’ve added a bit of colour to some of the characters. I’ve missed doing an animation of late so I’ve decided to start working on another film while trying to sort out the dialogue for the comic at the same time.

Tear Drops Blossom will be screened again on Channel 4 on Monday 2 February at 00.20 as part of AnimateTV 2008. So if you missed the show the first time round now’s your chance to watch it, or tape it, or Sky plus it, or whatever else it is you do these days.
